A Chicago police officer accused of making false DUI arrests has now been placed on administrative leave.
A police spokesperson says Officer Richard Fiorito will be on desk duty pending an Internal Affairs investigation.
ABC7 has learned that the Cook County state's attorney is also investigating Fiorito. His lawyer says the allegations are false.
The announcement seems odd after months of speculation and whispers from defendants, DUI lawyers, and prosecutors alike about what, if anything, was going on with this officer. I saw Officer Fiorito in court earlier this week. His demeanor gave no hint that anything like this was about to happen. Well, he awaits the outcome of this investigation just like others accused of wrongdoing.
