This Chicago DUI Picture Is Worth A Lot More Than A Thousand Words

This Chicago DUI Lawyer has already posted about Disgraced Chicago DUI Top Cop, Joe Parker here , here, and here.

Today's print edition of the Chicago Sun-Times has the Headline,"D-U-LIES" and carries a great picture. Luckily for the DUI defendant featured, the picture does not lie. As I have said before, DUI is the only crime that may be based on the opinion of a police officer. The police officer is the government's star witness against the defendant and frequently it comes down to the police officer's word against the word of the defendant, even when both are "sworn to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth".

So the question is "what do we Illinois citizens have to do to protect our rights by requiring that all DUI traffic stops be recorded?". Now we know, first and foremost, cops are just like the rest of us, human beings, and their word(s) should not be worth more than those of us who are regular citizens.

Today, URGENT action is required of all active participants in our democracy. Call your state legislators down in Springfield and express your outrage about letting the primary witness in the crime of DUI be the government - and then the government's star witness lies under oath!

It looks like the government got it wrong by relying on former disgraced Top Chicago DUI Cops Joe Parker and John Haleas. There are others out there, both named and unnamed. And to think, so-called Top Cop Jody Weis would defy the court's order to produce the names of Chicago Police Officers with five or more complaints. Perhaps, there is something to hide...the truth.

How long has this been going on? Who were the DUI cops who taught Parker and Haleas these tricks? Changing the laws on DUI arrests in Illinois alone won't suffice; we need to change the culture of the Chicago Police AND put in place effective DUI laws to make our roads safer. What about all the drunk drivers in Chicago who got away with it while Haleas, Parker and their cronies were goofing off and making overtime on all these bogus arrests?
