Chicago DUI lawyer warns about DUI's on lawnmowers

This Chicago DUI lawyer has posted about DUI's on horseback, bicycle, and even DUI on motorized bar stools. Now what I previously predicted has occurred and a man has been charged with DUI on his lawnmower.

Police said a man with a drunken-driving conviction didn't let his revoked license stop him from driving to a local convenience store to replenish his beer supply -- he just climbed behind the wheel of his lawnmower.

But Dennis D. Cretton, 49, of 29 Dianne Drive near Belleville, hadn't quite completed the mile-long round trip before his neighbors called police about 9 p.m. Friday. They reported that he was weaving in and out of traffic along Dianne Drive, attempting to pass cars in his 2007 Cub Cadet mower.

When deputies Jason Robertson and Lee Graham, and Investigator Scott Toth arrived, Cretton was returning home from the Conoco gas station about half a mile away on Centerville Avenue and had made it to the corner of Dianne and Fenwood drives, close to home, police said.

They turned on their lights and tried to pull Cretton over, but he kept going, police said, veering off the roadway and heading into his front yard.

When he veered, however, a 12-pack of Milwaukee's Best Ice tumbled from his mower, Chief Investigator Capt. Steve Johnson said.

Toth asked Cretton what he was doing, and Cretton admitted driving the lawnmower to the gas station for lottery tickets and beer, Johnson said.

They arrested Cretton, charged him with felony aggravated driving under the influence and booked him into the St. Clair County Jail. He posted $1,000 bond on his $10,000 bail Sunday and was released to await trial.

The joys of summer are great. Let's not muck it up with DUI's on golf carts and lawnmowers.
