A Goddard, Kan., police officer admitted in federal court that he offered to have a woman’s drunken driving charge dismissed in exchange for sex, the U.S. Attorney’s office announced today.Calvin Schaffer, 44, of Goddard, made the admission as part of a plea agreement. Schaffer pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud.
Authorities said he arrested a woman Feb. 27 for drunken driving. He later sent her a text message and said he could arrange to have the charges dismissed if she agreed to have sex with him.

Chicago DUI lawyer comments on the DUI cop pleading guilty in the sexting case
This Chicago DUI lawyer has posted here, here, and here about bad police work in DUI cases. Today a former police officer pled guilty to wire fraud for sending text messages to a woman he arrested for DUI.
It makes me wonder how many mistakes are made routinely in DUI cases, whether a defendant is offered a bribe in exchange for dismissed charges or not.
