Citing a nearly 20-percent drop in donations Mothers Against Drunk Driving is cutting staff at its national office and and in 11 states, including Ohio.Locally, the former president of the now disbanded Summit County chapter of MADD, says he's still been given no explanation as to why the local office was closed by national MADD officials two years ago, when the chapter was financially self sufficient and successful.
William Lehman tells AkronNewsNow: "We were supporting ourselves really. We had quite a bit of money, $15,000 or $20,000 on our own that we got from donations. We were pretty much self supporting, and they came in one day and said we're closing everything down. We got letters from them saying we're closing you up. There were attorneys involved. They came down and took everything out of our office on State Road and boom, they were gone."
I wonder how MADD will attempt to spin any decrease in DUI numbers in these areas?
