Even Aldermen Get Charged with Chicago DUIs

As I mentioned previously, Chicago Alderman Sharon Dixon was charged with a Chicago DUI in the new year. Unfortunately, Alderman Dixon has apparently made statements to the press before her first court date of March 9, 2009.

Alderman Charged with a Chicago DUI

Chicago, Illinois- Jan. 23-A Chicago alderman arrested on drunken driving charges early this morning insists she was not drunk — and says she was berated by three Chicago Police officers who yelled at her and refused to give her their badge numbers.

As proof of her sobriety, Ald. Sharon Dixon (24th) said she never used the bathroom once during her seven hours at at North Side police station. She also said she believes officers arrested her because she was “going to write them up” for “mistreating” her.

“If I was intoxicated like they said, wouldn’t you think I would have to go to the bathroom?” Dixon told the Chicago Sun-Times.

The best thing Alderman Dixon can do is not speak to the press with details of what happened the night she was charged with a Chicago DUI. You probably already understand why it is not a good idea to speak to the police who are charging you with the offense of DUI. You may even understand why it is not a good idea to speak the the State's Attorney who is prosecuting you on a charge of DUI. I guess it is time to enlarge that list to include the media, please do not speak to them with specific details of your arrest while the charges are pending against you. On second thoughts, do not speak to anyone about the facts of your pending DUI case without having a prior discussion with your DUI lawyer.
